Turtle shell on Hesston discbine

I was thinking of welding a hard surface line where the turtle shell wears on a 1320 Hesston discbine, is this a good or bad idea?

These turtle shells are made from quenched and tempered, through-hardened material and will not take well to welding. It is likely that you'll get cracks in the heat-effected zone which isn't desireable on parts spinning at 2000+ rpm. When they get thin on one side swap them around so they are turning the other direction. When that side gets thin do the safe thing and replace them.

I was afraid of that, but I did like the idea. They aren't expensive enough for someone to get hurt for, thank you.
