Cobey Hi Speed Wagon

They are good wagons , as long as not over loaded. They are a Mechanics night mare, forward reverse , side discharge and chains chains and more chains and sprockets. Yes they are geared pretty fast.

How are there chains and sprockets on just a running gear as that is what was called the speed wagon as it was supposed to be able to be towed by the truck or car down the road. Meaning that it trailed good acording to sale lit.

My Dad had a Cobey wagon-probably built in the '40s or early '50s. I believe the bed and running gear were all one unit. It always towed real well.
Ours had short metal sides, like a barge box. Dad took those off, and had tall wood sides built, with a false unloading end gate, and used it for hauling chopped hay. Later on we replaced those with new wood sides and used it to haul bales from the bale thrower. My brother eventually put the original metal sides back on it. He still has the wagon, although it doesn't get used much any more.
