JD 24T billhook issue

Every 5 bales or so the left (from rear) billhook does not let the knot release. My manual says this is wiper adjustment, billhook spring tension, or billhook surface issue. I am confused because it is every 5 bales like clockwork. I run 5, shut off machine,go back reach in with pliers, pull knot out, bale until untied bale is near end of shoot, retie left side, repeat. Not particularly time efficient. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

few things you need to check: the bill hook has a roller ball on the top. If that roller gets flats worn on it, the bill hook will not open all the way. They are easy and cheap to replace. Keep WD-40 sprayed on them before each use and make sure they spin free. The twine gets cut off, not released actually, so check the twine knives and sharpen with a file. I also had trouble with the twine disk holder worm drive getting worn. The adjustment is to shift the washers. I can't remember what it was doing but think the knot was only part formed. And, yes, make sure the wiper slides across the bottom of the bill hook. Just tap the wiper arm with a small hammer to bend / adjust it. Very simple.
