Tightening wagon steering spindle

I am working on a well used wagon gear and have an issue with the front steering spindles. The axle tube the spindles run through are worn so there is a lot of play. Is it possible to push a thin wall pipe into them to tighten up? I have to redo the grease zerks, drill and tap them so was planning to drill through the new tube to allow grease. Anybody have any other solutions? Thanks

Aren"t there bushings in the tubes that the spindles go through? Even worn, there should be something left, usually at lest on one side.

If there were, they appear to be gone. I lifted the left front yesterday, pulled the cotter pin that holds the spindle in place and it dropped out.

I am currently working on a Gehl 500 running gear and there are 2 spindle bushings in each of the 2 front spindle axle housings which have a grease zerk. The bushings have a part number which I only mention because they are replaceable. My manual for a John Deere 953 running gear which I rebuilt a couple of years ago does not show bushings, only a top and bottom spindle housing on each side of the front axle. I suspect if those became worn, they could be machined to a slightly larger size and have a correct size bushing pressed in. On my Gehl, the spindles also fell out but the bushings stayed in thanks to a large amount of grease in the housing. After painting, I put the spindles back in and everything's good. Maybe you have bushings hidden in the grease. If so, all's good.
