Dearborn economy plow question

Does anybody know if the plow jointers attached to the coulters
on the Economy plows used the sway chains, like they did on the early model "Prior" series. Have found conflicting info searching the internet for the answer, and wanted to see if someone here could provide some insight. Thanks, Don

This picture is from the master parts book. They did although I'm not sure why since the coulters had stops on them.

Jason,
Thanks. I saw that picture recently and also a picture parts breakdown of the coulter / jointers for the Economy and Prior series plows.
The Prior series had the sway chains shown and listed in the parts breakdown but the Economy plow did not. Conflicting info even from the manuals.

My guess is that it is something that got eliminated over the course of the run. Yes prior models had to have the chains or the coulter would hit the rear tire. With the chains on it would help keep the wear down on the coulter stops. I would say they did use them on the earlier models and then eliminated them after they had used up the stock of chains. Could have been a marketing thing also, I'm sure farmers were wary of a "NEW" plow that had throwaway shares and had no coulter chains like they were accustomed to,but I would say they were used until the stockpile ran out. Also a few years after those plows came out, coverboards would become available making jointers obsolete.

I plowed many, many, many hours with the Dearborn Economy plow with jointers. They are great in some instances, a PIA in others.
Plowing in heavy debris, they would plug up and debris gets wedged between the jointer chain and the plow shin and beam. You had to get off of the tractor with the plow raised and try to stomp the wedged debris out. Without the jointer chain often lifting the plow and just backing up would clear the debris.
With heavy debris we often installed a 10' piece of #9 wire on the coulter post to drag in the furrow. It helped guide debris into the furrow. Problem here was that you could not back up with the wire behind you. Like trying to push a chain.
