I have a 7' Minnesota pull type sickle mower and am looking for information on how it is set up and adjusted. Also, is there any reason not to make the pitman stick out of metal (note the busted pitman stick)?

Thanks

Does anyone know the ND tractor dealer who bought the remains of the Minnesota Prison Industries farm equipment inventory ?

Thanks

Greg

Pitman stick is made out of wood so it is the weakest (cheapest) link. re ND dealer- I"ll check with local blacksmith- he was a MN dealer.

good advice, if you hit something or catch something in the blade you want the weakest cheapest thing to break!!!!!!

be sure to time or register the blade when you install the new pitman.

Greg,
Here is the information about the place in North Dakota. I contacted Rick at Minn-Cor. He told me to check with Shervin's of North Dakota. They bought out all of the pieces and parts of the MN farm equipment when the prison got out of the business. I have talked with Shervin's and are very helpful and knowledgeable. They have parts and stuff for lots of old equipment. Give them a call and see what they might have. 701-642-2544

There needs to be a weak link in the machine.

Now it is the wood stick.

If you make it metal, then it will not be the weak link.

If something has to give, what will you bust instead?

You should be able to find the consumables at the farm supply stores.

U break a pitman, its $15.00. Break a sickle, its over a hundred. BUT I see it is a belt drive like my 27 IHC. Don't know if that should change things or not. Appairantly the manufactures didn't think so.

Pitman sticks for Minnesota mowers are hand made by the owner. Point taken about a weak link. I'm going to look for an elm branch that is about the right size and have at it.
