1219 sickle pin adjustment

I broke the sickle head on my 1219.
Got a new head, and bolted it on, non clog guards, with bolted sections.
Just installed new under serrated sections.

Question is....
in operators manual says to just install pin and tighten.

in technical manual says to install pin, move knife to inward stroke and measure gap between top of knife head and pitman. If a 0-1/8 gap then make sure pin is sticking up 1/2 from top of pitman.

why is there 2 different procedures? Guessing they want the head to be able to float, and not bottom out if pin is to low?
Do want to break another head.

I think it broke before, because i removed sickle and just installed and didnt check measurements.

Make sure you installed the proper guards at the knife head end. Those guards MUST NOT the wear bars so the knife head can move fore and aft as it swings thru the arc of the drive arm. If you have the wrong guards, you will break the knife head!

If i remember corectly, the first one is a half regular guard which the point fits in tube and the next 3 are just the bottom non clog, not the tops with no wear plates.

It has been working like this for 4 years.
Like i posted, until i took the sickle out.

Your 1219 may not have used wear bar guards, but used wear plates on the rear support. Don't use wear plates at the knife head either. The knife has to move fore and aft as it swings.

Thanks Roger.

I can't remember what I installed on the first 3 on left side, (was 4- 5 years ago)

Is there a visual difference?
I will take one off and look for a part number, or just get one and compare.
I left email open if you could send phone# so I can ask questions about wear bar or plates.

Thanks

My serial number is e01219x651323.
If i looked up the parts right, all the guards are the same.
With the exception of the first and last.

Okay your machine did not use wear bar guards, only wear plates. Again, wear plates should not be used for the first 2 or 3 locations at the knife head.

I don't have pics of guards to show.

The drive pin should be fully seated in knife head but not pushing down on it. Pin should be replaced if worn. Can turn 90 degrees for awhile if pin has a groove all the way around it. Use torque wrench to tighten bolt!
