If I have a lot of play in my tucker fingers will this cause my knots to come apart? I'm getting a knot, but it sometimes slips out. Thanks.

Sounds more like bill hook tension needs to be set up. The more bill hook tension... the tighter the knot is basically the way I understand it.

Tucker fingers are all 'loose'.As was stated, the billhook tension is probably loose.Give the adjusting nut one turn.Buy/order a book, adjust everything to the book. The cheapest thing/best 40 bucks you will ever spend. And your baler will run like a new one.

I have a 24t needing twine finger update, play or looseness in the linkage and where the finger pivots, these are my experiences. If the finger does not get its job done and all else is good you will have a missed knot with a knot in the top string (#1) and no knot in the bottom string (#2). The fingers job is to bring the two strings together under the twine disk so the bill hook gets both of them. With play in the finger this will be most evident when the flake is bigger just as the baler ties for me. The finger doesnt get sting #2 completely in position and the bill hook only finds #1. I have some odd field shapes and get some thick spots in the row. If I am there just as a bale is finishing thats when it will sometimes mis, my bet is on the slack in my fingers as all else is in pretty good shape. I did start missing bad one time and found the anchor point for the spring that returns the tucker fingers home had pulled out, big split pin in a hole in the frame work. My misses that I blame on the condition of the fingers might be 2 out 100 on the worst day.

you do need the book, it can be had as a download at no cost on the web. Google will find it. All kinds of videos on youtube on knotter function, dont limit yourself to watching the green ones. There are some good red ones that show how a knotter works.

If you're miss tying during a slug,Your spaceing between needle and finger is too wide. The (new holland) book specifies 1/32 clearance.Doesnt take much gap for the string to slip through and get missed.

Roger that. No more adjustment left, slack from here until tomorrow but I can live with it. Like I say, maybe mis 2 out of 100 on a bad day. Silver lining is it makes me pay attention to how well I row it up and all the bales benefit. I'm very small time, feed mine, sell a couple hundred for cheap, covers fuel and string and lets me put a couple hundred back into the equipement each year.
