Gehl flail choppers

I have the chance to buy my choice of two Gehl flail choppers. Both are field ready and pretty much equal in overall appearance. Sitting side by side it would be hard to tell them apart. Both have good flails. The only difference is the models. One is a 72, the other is a 7200. Is there a reason why one model should be preferred over the other? Price is the same for either.
 
If memory serves me rigt,weren't there 3 series of 72s? Seems like the one I have out here is a 72C but I wouldn't swear to it. I had a 7200. I like the 72 better. It drives from the gear box with a U-joint. The 7200 had a hub in between there that bolted to the pulley on the fan shaft. Those bolts worked loose that held that hub on there and wallowed the holes out.
 
7200 is newer... otherwise they're pretty much the same machine. Check the spouts - they can rust and break off. Also be aware that Gehl has abandoned their ag machinery and isn't making parts any more.
 
72, 72B & 72C followed by the 7200. Never knew about too much difference in any, but I'm sure there was some change along the way.
 
There have been a few later Gehls at auction lately as opposed to virtually none for a long time. Long story short is even the good ones brought under 1,000 dollars. Good NH 38's will bring 1,600 to 2,000 dollars or more so let that be a benchmark if you will.
 
IIRC mine was a 72. Tried chopping corn stalks after combining, to make bedding. Cut was so shaggy it was hard to unload the silage boxes. Bought a set of 3 new knives with the intention of adding them to the blower- I believe it was made for that. Never installed, so you know where you get a set of new knives if you need some......
 
Looking at my dealer info there was a FC72A after
the FC72. FC 72 s/n 1001 to 6000, FC 72A 6001 to
15000, FC 72B 15501 to 36000, FC72C 36001to39950,
7200 42000--- 1st yr was 1960. Chuck
