Mccormick 75-P hay Chopper-Check Out My New Rusty Toy!

Hello all-

A few years back I posted on Implement Alley that I was looking for info on a IH McCormick model 75-P field hay chopper and wanted to know if anyone had one. The one I found a few years back, the owner would not sell, even though I knew it had been in the weeds for 20+ years. Well, they are getting rid of everything now, and I was able to get it. Probably paid way to much for it, but I think it is rare and I wanted it. Pulled it home, took about an hour and 45 minutes to go 50 miles. Pulled nice on highway at 35-40mph. Stopped to grease hubs a few times on way back.

International Harvester only made about 2,085 of these from 1947-1951.

Need to get a belt for the blower yet. Oiled and greased the machine tonight and hooked up to the Farmall H. Powered it up and everything was working! Still have a long way to go as far as tightening chains, adjustments, new oil in gearboxes, etc.

My main concern was saving this one from the scrap iron man. There is very little to no info on the web for this model. I only know of one other person who has one, so I hope I did the right thing. If I get it running this fall, I will post some pics of it eating hay. Any comments are welcome. Thanks!

Awesome, looks great! I really enjoy seeing the
implements at shows and being used. That is unique.
I was just looking at some old Brady literature that
had a chopper that you could pull your baler with
and blow it right into the baler. Good luck with
it.

This chopper is a combo of the IH mccormick model 45 baler and model 9 ensilage cutter. Interesting how they combined the 2 for field use!

Good on ya!! That's a very cool find. If there isn't one offered on the site here, Ebay should produce a manual. But.... be careful. There's quite a few people that think they (used copies) are worth a fortune, even though they probably produced three times as many manuals, compared to machine production.

The belt is an easy fix. If you can't get one by part number through the depot, you should be able to cut one to size.

One more thing.... in my opinion, whatever you paid for it, it's worth it. That's a red gem waiting to happen.

I guess it was wishful thinking, but I already have all the manuals. I bought them slowly over the last few years. HAve the owners/assembly manual, parts manual, and some original advertising literature. The only thing I don't have is a Blue Ribbon service manual, but I don't know if they ever made one for this machine. Thanks for the comments so far!

I thought I had a manual for that , but my manual is for a McCormick No. 15 Field Harvestor. Looks like the 15 was later, but had the option of a hay pick-up unit attachment very, very much like the pickup on yours. Also a Row Crop attachment was available.
You have very nice machine there.

I don't think there is a Blue Ribbon manual for it, but IH should have issued Dealer Service Bulletins on the 75-P. Usually find them by the binder-full on thE bay (once again, shop wisely ;v)).

Have you gone to the Archive in Madison? May want to check there for the bulletins & whatever else they might have on the hay choppers.

Thanks for the info Mike. I have come across the IHC Mccormick collection from the Wisconsin Historical Society online. Looks like they have a ton of stuff. This must be the one you were referring to. I will have to look for some service bulletins now. Thanks!

Congratulations! Happy to see that your
perseverance has paid off.

I remember when you, or another fellow was looking
for one 2 years ago; I have not seen one anywhere
here in WI.

Good for you! Best of luck with her!!
