Just got this on out of barn stored for 10 yrs. The twine is wrapping around the bill hook shaft. Its above the actual bill hook mouth. Any ideas ? Thanks

draftx,

Here is a hot link to a youtube video of an old training film that New Holland produced a long time ago to show the operation of a knotter.

If you have not viewed it previously, you might find it to be helpful at this time.

Balers work great when they work, but are a real pain in the neck when they don't.

Good luck getting yours going again.

set it up with no hay in it.. tie off twine on frame and run needles up as you would when completely starting from scratch.. Have helper turn wheel slowly and pull up on the bale length arm to get the needles moving.. watch that side carefully comparing to the other side since I am assuming its O.K..?.. Make sure needles LIGHTLY rubs frame when delivering twine to needle should also be leaving the twine in twine disc and on top of the bill hook hook.. after that hook two bungies inside to pull on twine and hook somewhere to have a slight pull on twine (to mimic hay putting tension on) and do the above all over again.. watch to see how the bill hook moves on that side.. should be able to see in slow mo whats going on.. Also that video that was mentioned is also very cool to see and understand how these things work.. good luck

Is the roller on the end of the moveable jaw on the bill hook ok? Not stuck or missing?

The video is great - highly recommend it.

I take it that the twine is only wrapping on one bill hook shaft? Nice thing about having 2 knotters side by side is you can visually compare what's happing to both at the same time. So when you are having someone cycle the flywheel and tripping the knotters to do their thing, you can compare one knotter to the other and that should help point out what's going amuck.

Good luck,
Bill
