NH 855 Air bag substitute Goodyear 1R12-103

FYI...I used Goodyear part number 1R12-103 as a replacement air bag on my NH 855 baler.

I know this has been discussed before, but I got a little confused reading that discussion. Bought what I thought was decided on, put them on ok in June, but hadn"t used the baler till today...and you never really know until you run it.

Had to remove the piston from my original bags and use them on the new ones...only 1 nut holds them on.

And it was $347.90 for the pair including shipping as opposed to $5-600 each from NH.

Kind of off topic here, but for winter storage, should I take the pressure off the bags??? This is my first year with an 855, it worked well this year, I covered the air bags when i was done with 1st cutting as I only round bale 1st cut, I pressure washed and greased, but did not let the air out at least yet, wondered what others think here?

Thanks,

Leo

I'll let the air down to the low end of the range...40PSI...don't know if it helps, but I figure it can't hurt.

I don't pressure wash, there's a slight chance, if I'm not careful, could blow water into a bearing. I use a leaf blower to blow off the hay and dust, might need a stick to loosen up the hay behind the twine boxes, oil up the chains and put it away.
Keep telling myself(for the past 15 years) to get a cheap mop to spread some oil on the inside where it wears the paint so it doesn't surface rust over the winter, but haven't got there yet. It's hard to reach around those chains.

Thanks Fred, I still pressure wash, but after I grease and spray oil on everything. Not exactly environmentally friendly, but it seems to keep everything in good shape. I had an 851 that I thought I was cleaning well, found out there is a bearing carrier buried between inside and outside sheet metal, the chaf left in there rotted out the carrier and trashed the machine. The 855 makes a much nicer bale though so I guess it was ok, i got 6 years out of the 851 that I only paid $500 for and it's worth about $300 in scrap.
