My NH 688 is spitting hay up in front of the rollers/belts. Also seems to roll hard when PTO is engaged but I cannot find any signs of bearing trouble/heat. Well maintained baler and the sledge gears are 70% or better. What could be going on?

BTW...baling bermuda....short and dry hay b ut thick windrows.

Clear out the area above the twine needles and start your bale slowly until the bale starts to form. It's not pulling the hay into the chamber but piling it up in front. Once it starts to form, you should be OK....

I'm wondering if your hay isn't to dry. I have a New Holland BR740. Once I was having a terrible time getting the bales to start. The hay would go in and then want to come right back out, would not start a roll. Waited till the next day when there was some dew on and it baled fine. Not sure that is your problem, but a thot.
