4 wheel sitrex type of rake

I just got a 4 wheel type of rake . The tine ends don't show any wear. The wheels have the tines that are dished forward, they are not flat. I am wondering if the rake is assembled wrong. The center of the disc seem to be turn opposite of others I have seen. I used to post under david1 and some how got locked out, but now I am back as draftx for the draft horses we used to have and can post pics, which I was never able to do.

does it rake hay? I had one just like it and it would not rake, the wheels were on backward.

It looks like a popular rake used in New Zealand, made by Vicon I think from memory and perhaps others as well. They were very fast, handy and covered lot of ground in a short time but did tend to put a few lumps into the windrows depending on type of grass and how many times used. As yours looks like a normal left hand delivery, I think the wheels and so the tines are mounted backwards. This will bend the tines backwards and buckle and break the tines. I doubt if it would turn or windrow hay like it is. Please forgive me if I have interpreted the picture wrong.

I just sold my Gehl, which looked like that, but it had twice the wheels. Each was a 3pt section on a larger frame.

I have the same rake. I will check the orientation of the tines tomorrow IF I do not forget. I will try to take pics and post back.

I have the Massey Ferguson version of that rake. Vicon built them as the Massey Ferguson 29 and Gehl WR204. They can rake, turn, and fluff depending on how you turn the rake. The main frame can turn 180 degrees for either raking or fluffing. You turn the two smaller frames for turning the hay. This pic will tell you how it needs to be turned to do which job.

Here is a link to the Gehl WR204 rake manual. It will tell you a little more on setting it up. Hope this helps.

That rake is set up to attempt to stir hay. Go to the latch just behind the hitch, behind the double springs fron the top of the hitch. Pull the latch and "turn it over". Each wheel should rake before the one behind it. Your is not set up that way. It will work much better after you do that.

Hey Tx thanks for the reply. Do I need to disassemble the wheels to do that or just flip them over and put them on the other side? Thanks

Yes I think the wheels are for LH side. I think to change plate from one side to the other one will need a jig to keep the loose teeth together. I've owned/operated wheel rakes for years and without a jig I think you'll need a lot of helping hands to swap plate from one side to the other.

Previous owner used it, dragged it low, and dished the teeth.

To make it look better, he flipped the wheels around, and now the dish looks appealing to,you, but the wheels are backwards.

Just remove the wheels, and put them on with the dish facing to to rear.

I forgot to look at mine in the daylight, but I believe that is th deal.

Thanks for all the info. I hooked it up today and it raked just fine. I have never used one before but it raked clean and was smooth. I talked to a guy that used to sell them and he said you can flip it all the way over and change the angle to make it deliver hay to the right. Go figure.

I wasn't implying it wouldn't rake hay the way the rake wheels are attached but the round plate is designed to give the teeth more support that the odd shaped pieces under the bolt heads holding the teeth on. Flipping wheels over to rake hay the opposite direction won't affect which side the round plate is contacting the teeth.

There should be a pin or bolt near the jackstand. You should be able to pull that pin and rotate the bar that the lower links are on and drop the pin in a hole on the other side of the top link upright. It should rake perfectly then.
