International 990 plugging help

I had the most trouble with my IH 990 hay bind with it plugging up.
I checked the gards and put a resharppend sickly with no change. It worked great cutting some oats hay but when I started cutting clover and grass hay it plugged every 100-300 feet.
I just backedup and lifted it up to clean out the rollers and went back to cutting. But now I have all this piles of hay all over the feild that won"t dry evenly so now I"m using a fork to spread it out.
Thanks for any help Jeff

Well, without pulling out the manual what I am getting is that your straw was a lot drier than your hay. If it was plugging repeatedly in the same areas you will likely find a problem with the sections in that part of the knife or a guard is loose and gathering hay. But what I keep coming back to is that it cut the straw but not the hay leading me to look first at the condition of the hay when mowing. Mow later in the day when it has dried out some. I never mow in the AM and most times fall cuttings have to be done late in the day.

I had the same problem with my 990 toward the end of last year. New knives and good guards but still no luck. What I found was that a lot of the in feed reel teeth were worn, so they weren't cleaning the hay off the guards. I replaced about a dozen of them and it worked great this season.
The reel can also be adjusted to move it closer to the cutter bar.

Dave and Pete Thanks for the info.
I found out if I let it dry it cuts better but still had some trouble then adjusted the reel that helped also. SO it is working again now Thanks Jeff
