Was cutting hay today and broke knife head.
Started out that sickle would not move, old hay in non clog guards. tried to remove sickle pin to get sickle assembly out and clean, put couldn't get pin out, so just worked back and forth by hand and get sickle to move.
Tightened sickle bolt ( didn't adjust they way manual says, just installed pin and tightened.
Cut 10 acres of thin grass.
Came back home tightened sickle drive belt up. Was getting loose. Greased machine, and started to cut 3 acres of thick grass/hay one more pass to make and noticed that hay was not cutting, rolls turning, knife going back and forth, but sickle not moving.
Sickle broke right by head.
Could this be related to not adjusting pin per manual?
Thinking about getting just new head and installing on sickle since sickle is only 6 years with about 250 acres on it.
Is the aftermarket just as good as JD?

I had knife head break last year on my 1219. I bought a replacement one from Shoup. I also bought a new pin since the old one was worn. I haven't had any problems since.

I always had NH haybines, but the knife head portion was simply pinned to the knife with longer rivets, so once I replaced the rivets, all was good again. I noticed if the rivets got slop in them, they broke quickly so I checked all and hammered them tight or replaced them when needed.
