IH 720 plow

Depends on the soil. "here" in our area it takes a solid 100 HP to pull 4-16's. In other areas, they claim as few as 50-55 will do.

I pulled a 720 with 4-18"s for a lot of years with a '71 Deere 3020D. But the 4240 that came along later handled it much better. Our soils would be called light by most.

I plowed w/ a 856 for years 720 5x16 and a 5x18. L3, TA in forward position most of the time. Wide open throttle. We did have a 200 acre tract of what the locals called 'push dirt' that you could plow in H1 TA ahead if you wanted. Most of our land was clay loam, a little was red clay that you needed L2 or L1.
The land was in central Dane County, west of Madison.
