shocking oats and wheat

Does anyone have a video of shocking wheat or oats that they could post on here so that people could see how to do it correctly? Thanks

There were many different ways to shock; didn't seem to make much difference which method was used.

Some people insisted that a bundle had to be laid horizontal on top of the shock. My Dad thought that was plain stupid so we never did that. I was usually the kid that got to hold the first 2 bundles upright as the "starter" for the shock. The number of bundles in a shock varied with the size of the straw and the size of the bundles.

IF it looked like bad weather, they capped them. heads upside down on top of shock, kinda splayed out to form a canopy. IF it looked like fair hot weather, we didn't.
10 to 12 bundles in a shock.

We put 6-8 bundles in a shock. Never capped any shocks. In our climate in SC one good rain would ruin the bundle that was laid flat on the top and it would hold moisture to ruin the heads of the other bundles under it.

We were cutting oats for hay.
