Where can you find belt dressing for flat belts, the kind in a tube that the put on while the belt is turning? Thanks Amo

I don't think you can get the kind in the tube any more possibly because of liability issues. I got several cans of a squirt on dressing a few years ago, and I am very happy with it. It has a small nozzle with the rectangular can. It is probably about a quart and squirts like three in one oil cans.

it's been near 20ys since i saw the tube type dressing.

for belts like that i often use a white candle..

We get some stuff from the Amish here, they send for it from out in Ohio/Pennsylvania, when we run steam engines etc. it works wonders. I got another guy using it at his elevator/feed mill and he loves it too.

I can get the name of the stuff if you want, just PM me, as I can't remember it off hand!

Plain old grease gun grease! With the belt running, spread it on sparingly so you get decent coverage and let the belt run for a few minutes.
The grease will turn "tacky" and grip quite well.
Use cheap stuff, not the fancy grease.

I had an experienced thresherman recommend Crown belt dressing in the quarts. I and our engine club have been using it for our belt powered equipment. Not messy and effective. I found it online and ordered it. Good stuff.

All we ever used was Karo corn syrup. Dad would run the belt real slow and drizzle it back and forth. Run for a minute or two more at low speed then put the power to it.
Angle Iron.

The last I used several years ago was in a spray can. It worked for a round baler.

I have an Attwoods farm store here and they sell a rattle can belt dressing. Works great on my V belts under high loads. Be right back.

Google: Zecol Belt Dressing.

The old style dressing was allegedly rosin in a binder material, supposedly a petroleum product that had a hard, waxy consistency. I remember using that black hard belt dressing on a huge drill press we had that used leather belts. Anyway, powdered rosin should still be available. Brownells gunsmith supply used to sell it by the pound.
