Installing a new hydraulic cylinder .... question ???

Once again, probably a simple question from a non-
farmer. I have an older cultivator which is
activated by a hydraulic cylinder to raise or
lower the wheels (and shovels). The cylinder I am
going to install is essentially dry (no fluid
inside) and so are the hoses. Once I get it onto
the cultivator, is there anything I have to do to
this cylinder & hoses before hooking it up to my
rear tractor hydraulic couplers? I"m wondering
about air locks or how the fluid will move in our
out of the cylinder.

Nothing special is needed.Simply 'cycle' the cylinder in/out a few times. It will 'self purge'.If it makes you feel better, lay it on the ground first. But not nessesary.Just install on implement and work it in/out a few times....

I agree with the others. But make sure you have the hydraulic supply full so it won't run low. when you work the cylinder.
