Must be rare, never seen another one. yes it works. what's the deal about the chain lift? it kinda floats when it's in the mowing position. I have to shorten the driveline that came with it to try it out

Just ran it for about an hour. it works very well in the tall grass I did less really thick grass but seemed ok. I guess it's best to go slow though the thick stuff so it doesn't clog, still seemed alright though. have to look into how to maintain these machines. looks like it will need a lot of between uses care.

The "Rare" chain lift comment was tongue in cheek. As to floating, the bolt head adjustment on the long spring on the back of the mower adjusts the " float" .

Hi, I believe it is a model C-28 that was
available in 3pt or fast hitch. We bought one
about 1958 and my brother still has it in corner
of the shed. We used it on JD 420, IH B414D, 434,
384 and 454.
Ours was a 7ft, possibly they were available in
6ft as well. Mowed many acres with one.

Hi Glenn, is that a B-275 that you have that C-
28 mower mounted on? Surprising you have to
shorten drive line as we used ours on B414D but
some one may have replaced drive line in last
50 years.
The swather board on ours was a steel rod in a
side ways U shape. Becareful were you place you
fingers on the cutter bar when you lift bar
into transport position. Ours had a second
chain that was connected at bottom of mower
frame below the 3pt pin, we would connect this
chain bolt installed in right rear casting of
B414 diff. The chain was adjusted to keep mower
at correct working height and also keep mowe
from going side to side without having to
adjust 3pt sway chains.

Yes thats a B275, it works well on this tractor. I'm surprised this mower is as old as it is, it must have been well looked after from the PO. On the B275 the sway chains don;t have the turnbuckle in the middle like the B414 did. mine are connected to the hardpoints under the axles and there is a little sway on the bush hog I didn't notice much on this. Those chains are much tighter with a lowered implement than a raised one though, Thought I might get a set of 414 ones with the adjuster as I notice premade sway bars don't fit. .
Any idea where there might be a manual for the C-28 mower? I have implements that are on their last legs and I have a few that are like this (in very good shape) and I'd like to be sure the good ones stay good.

I H made the same 3 point mower here in the UK at the Doncaster works. It was the B23 mower with a 5ft or 6ft cut and was made from 1952. I sold them into the mid 1970s. MJ

Hi Glenn, very simple machine, some grease
zerks and a couple of adjustments. I believe
the C-28 that we have was made in Hamilton, On,
Canada.

I don't know where you would find an Operator's
manual. SIL renovated the farm house and
disposed of cabinet with all the old IH
Operator's Manuals. I was lucky enough to
rescued the B414 Ops manual.

Thanks. great info. Doesn't look too complex I suppose it's always nice to see how the manufacturer intended something to be used.
