Wagon question

I see older flair boxes made of metal that have wooden floors.

What would be reasons as to why a wood floor was used instead of making the entire box of metal??

The sound of a steel scoop shovel on rusty steel floor made my teeth hurt! Kind of like long fingernails on a blackboard.

A wagon bed made from wood will give when loaded, a steel bed will just bend when a load is dropped in it. I did some math a few years ago about replacing the wood floor with a steel floor on a trailer. The steel trailer deck needs more cross bars than a wooden floor and weighs more too.
