Oliver 565 plow

We recently rescued this from my Father-
in-Law's woods, its been sitting for 20
some years. The plan is to fix it up and
use it for our club's plow days. I need a
good place (cheap) to find landsides and a
couple of moldboards for sure. I also need
a hydraulic cylinder for it. I don't mind
buying a new one, but can someone tell me
what cylinder to get? I admit I know
nearly nothing about plows in general.

Standard 8" stroke cylinder, for both the lift, and side hill hitch, if it has one.
I used to have one of these. (4x16) Behind an AC 6060, it was the best plowing arrangement I ever had. Along with the hyd. front hitch, there is enough adjustment room on the front of that plow that I had the draft so that you could drop the wheel in the furrow and let go of the steering wheel.

All I can say is for plow day they would have to have a bigger area to plow than most around here as one that size covers too much area the others don't get much of a chance. You would need a hundred acre field for to have a couple of plows of that size. Most plow days around a 30 acre field is hard to come up with and it takes that much acreage to handle the 30 or so single to 3 bottom plows that show up. And then nowadays most tractors are not weighted like they were when doing plowing and so if they are trying to use the size of when tractor was new they are just setting and spinning where if they have a smaller plow they can moove and keep everybody else happy. Around here if you would go in with that big of a plow people would think you are just a show off and you would not be invited back again next year. If you have plow days where they can have 100 to 200 acres avaible to plow then you should be OK with that size plow IF you can pull it. Prefered plow around here is a 2 bottom 14" as most of the tractors would not even be big enough to pull that plow and for the tractors that pulled a 3 bottom when new a 2 bottom is much easier handled. And then there will be people with small tractors with a 1 bottom 12" plow and it is easier to get a level field for the host with a 12" going against a 14" instead of a 16" and like wise a 16" going against a 14" so that is why a 14" is best. With a plow that big you will have the field finnished befor the person with the Farmall cub or John Deere H with that single bottom 12" plow even gets to the plow day.

I can't argue that, you make good points. Our hosts typically have about 120 acres for us, and if you saw the way our club does things, you'd see why a plow this size is OK. We do more horsing around than actual plowing sometimes. Plus, I'm not 100% sure my tractor will handle it, but the plow was free and its all for fun anyway.

Think you are understanding things so you should be good. some don't. When I hosted a plow day close to 20 year ago just hade about 30 acres and just for club I belonged to. 2 that did not belong came with those big tractors and plows and ruined it for everybody else. About only 80 acres total in that farm.
