What holds the rake teeth in a dump rake?

Ive got an old McCormick dump rake. Had it round 30yrs. Never had a tongue in it. I finally last week drug it out of the line and put a tongue on it. Its missing 2 of the rake teeth. I got to wondering what held those teeth in. If its not to demanding a job, I might look for the replacement teeth for it. Dads had some bars that ran from the front back behind and between the rake teeth. Maybe 4/6 of them. I guess they were to knock the hay off the teeth as the teeth raised to dump the load. Mine don't have those. This is grass country so maybe they felt they didn't need them and took them off. I guess I could live without them.

There is one standing in my woods, been there for 60-70 years with out being moved. I'm about to junk it. Didn't know anyone still used them.

Ive had mine for 20+yrs. Never used it, but I hate having a machine around that aint able to be used, and so, since it didn't have a tongue fit top use, and I like to be kept busy, I built one, using a part from a Case steel wheel hayrake that I had junked out to build 2 others. I MIGHT use it to rake up enough old hay that is in my field so as to have enough when I get someone out here to see why my 1960 Case 140W wont tie to be able to run the hay through it.

Guy west of me had two dumps rakes. He was asking $200.00 each. I went buy a few days later and both were gone. I could use one to clean up the grass when I mow my clover food plots.

Note instruction 3:
[b:654c4848f0]3. Attach rake teeth, with clamps, to rake beam. See chart on following page for various combinations of teeth and clamps. [i:654c4848f0]See Illust. 6A also.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]

Take a look at the chart below.

There are different clamps used for different diameter rake teeth.

Take a look at the illustration below.

Note that the drive cleaner rods (Key 1) are the "[i:654c4848f0]bars that ran from the front back behind and between the rake teeth[/i:654c4848f0]".

We have used our McCormick-Deering Self-Dump Hay Rake to "clean up" cut grass on different hay fields.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the thought, but im 66, and although I can just barely read the print, I cant make out the pics to see how its done

Take a look at the photos below of the clamps on our rake.

Note the "gap" between the rake tooth and rake beam.

This allows the rake tooth to "flex" without bending or breaking.

Hope this helps.
