This might be a stupid question but what does it mean when a disc is referred to as a one-way disc? Is there anything I need to take precautions on when I use it? Thanks.

CG4440, No that term refers to a piece of disced tillage equipment! it throws the soil One-Way!
A One-Way plow was the most commonly used tillage equipment in the High plains, that led to the Dust Bowl and the Dirty 30s! One-Ways were still commonly used in the High Plains even into the late 80s when the Big Sweep plows pretty much replace it!
So set the One-Way plow to a working depth of 4 to 5 inches. The most common hitch setting is the Rt H rear tractor tire will run the the furrow of the last disc cut of the plow. Continue in a circular fashion till you are done.
If pulling 2 or more big One-Ways sometimes the Farmers had them set up to be "On Land" if they were useing Duals or really large Wide rear tires. Too large to drop them off into the Furrow!
Running corners is entirely another skill set that has to be Mastered to finished the field off when done. I need more time to explain that I have patience to explain here..... If you'd like to visit Holler! My # is (512) 577-3837.
Hope this helps!

Most pull type one ways AKA disk tillers AKA diskers don't turn a RH corner very sharp. If frt disks are set too deep it will cause rear wheel to kick out of furrow.

this might be what you are talking about
they were called discers

this one had the seed box added to the top of the machine. later model, early machines did not have the seed boxes, so you have to make a second trip over the field sowing the seed and pulling a harrow.

this machine broke up the soil and planted the crop at the same time.

disc blades all faced the same way.

they were used for years planting the great plains
they only till the soil a few inches deep,

I assume farmers learned not to till the soil so deep after the great dust storms of the mid Thirties.
