Hesston 5800 Manual Error or Not?

On page 34 under PRESSURE ROLLER CLEARANCE.

A clearance must be maintained between the rollers at all times but should not “exceed 1/16-inch”.

How in the world does hay get passed these rollers so close together?

Anyone use this model with this setting on roller spacing?

All comments welcomed.

(quoted from post at 11:26:43 08/21/14) Isn't it spring loaded so it opens up when hay is passing through?

Well that was what I was thinking. On the page there is a spring and it is to be adjusted to no more then
10 inches. I am guessing this allows the roller to open so far with a pressure from the spring.
So if I allow more then a 1/16th inch say 1” will the hay get into to fast and not allow time to roll up?

(quoted from post at 15:11:18 08/21/14) I don't think you'd have traction enough on it to even get it in. It would just slip.

I open the roller clearance to about 1 inch not knowing better(before I had a manual).
I was able to make bales it sucked the big windrow right up if the grass was long and dry.
Then I tried on smaller wind rows the grass got up over the pickup and piled
up in front of the roller and jammed.
I then tried to pickup brome hay and it would not pick it up. The grass made it into the chamber
and made the start of a bale about 2 feet in diameter. This is when the belts are suppose to be tight enough and turn. The baler belts would not turn and the slip clutch engaged. My brome wind row where big. I am wondering if the rollers where closer would this allow the grass to come in slower and
make a rounder starter bale?
What do you all think?

I think they probably tested those balers six ways from Sunday before they wrote the manual,so what it says,is where I'd start.

OK

Thanks

IF the belts aren't turning you aren't going to have much luck making a bale in any hay. The 5800 is just about like my 5500. If the belts aren't turning you need to trim the belts or adjust the tension at least.
