275 n h baler knotter brake adjustment

I've been breaking flywheel shear bolts on my 275 baler so I bought a manual and read it and decided to check the timing. I lined up the marks on the plunger and the marks on the knotter and it was off about 1 inch so I took the chain off per the manual and lined up the marks on the knotter assy, and rolled the flywheel thru the knotter cycle and it was alot smother than before. I also did the needle penetration check and measured it was in spec (1/8 to 1/4 inch). I read in the manual that if the knotter brake is to tight will cause it to break the shear bolt on the knotter drive. Also if the knotter brake is to loose it will cause excessive fly wheel bolt breaking.Breaking the fly wheel shear bolt is my problem. I noticed that my knotter brake is worn out ( brake lining on both left brake and right are shot),so I have ordered a new brake and the book doesn't explain how to adjust the knotter brake and the brakes are about $ 35.00 each and hoping that some of you guys could give me some advice on how to do this. Set the brake so when you grab the arm connected to the brake you cannot move the arm by hand.

Tighten in small intervals till it locks up.

You may have to reset after running it as the pads wear in.

It's not too loose if you can move the needle bail crank arm with some effort. Seldom mentioned, but more important to flywheel shearbolt life than brake adjustment is the 'knotter home adjustment'. When the knotter is 'home' in the proper location, the needles can't drop because the crank arm is over center and the knotter must counter-rotate against the trip latch in order for the needles to enter the chamber. If this isn't clear, read what the manual says about knotter 'home' position. Also, if the knotter hasn't been counter rotated to take up the slack in the clutch trip pawl, any adjustments to knotter timing may be erroneous. Again, consult the manual. If you don't have one, get one. They are invaluable and inexpensive.
 
have a 275 sheared a bolt every load put in new fly wheel bushing welded up the arm bolt went thru and re drilled it new arm was not cheap works great 8 loads never sheared
