Old baler, broken teeth on gearbox sprocket to top chain, chain broke. No sign of any lube on sprockets. Is this a common failure due to age and lack of maintenance ....or is something bad going on in the gear boxes? Hard to diagnose without removing the panels (rusted on). Flywheel, Main gearbox and plunger move and work easily.

if the chains are not lubed every day before baling, they will bind and break. I also have found there are bolts that hold the shield on the occassionally end up coming loose and can actually catch on the chain, which breaks teeth off the sprocket and chain, usually also manages to break the feeder tines as everything crashes to a stop.... Don't ask how I know all of this... Just a few hundred dollars in parts... I now use a hand pump sprayer with used oil to lube the chains, and also check the stupid bolts several times a year...
