New Idea 206 Manure Spreader

Someone near me is selling a New Idea 206 manure spreader. Does anyone have any experience with this spreader? I know it"s ground driven and is 95 bushels. I have a lot of livestock (15 horses, many goats, sheep, llamas and alpacas) so it"s going to get a lot of use. I"ve never had a ground driven spreader, will it have enough power to spread a full load?
Thanks!!!

Not familiar with that model, but NH builds their spreaders pretty light and the axles are really just stub axles welded to a stamped "U" shaped support that is apparently purposely engineered to catch water and manure and rot out.

Love NH hay equipment but not a huge fan of their spreaders. Check CAREFULLY for rot.

I have one for 30 years. The rear spreader paddle beater rusted off and I never put it back on, so I don't know if they spread wide normally. But I drop it into 2nd notch and it spreads nice the width of the rear. I also have a bigger PTO driven one. I like the bigger one for capacity, as we only clean out the barn 2 times a year. Keep it out of the rain and don't leave manure in it. Nice thing about a ground drive is a small tractor is just right.

It"s NI, not NH....but yeah, the NH design is poor. Our local blacksmith has rebuilt many of them. Axles cave in under load and the wheels hit the box sides.

I don't know anybody with a NH spreader that hasn't worked on the axles. NI made a good spreader when they made the wooden body ones - I have 2 of them. I'm not familiar with the later models.

The 206 was built from 1961 to 1964. Do not know what proceded it but is the same size as the 12-12A that was built in 42 to 54 And that was the most popular NI spreader in a 2 wheel possibly exceded only buy the No. 8 that was a 4 wheel horse drawn spreader. And they did not ever have a problem with putting out the power for a full load. Thinking that was the last ground drive spreader NI made.

Exact same size as the Model R John Deere and never slid a tire on it and pulled it with a 20 horse Deere tractor.

If you get the spreader I have a manual you can buy for $5 plus S+H
I have a bunch of NI spreader manuals.

Thanks, phulbert, if I get it, I'll let you know. I'm going to look at it later this week. The guy selling it isn't in a big hurry, and doesn't even want to show it to me for a few days. If I get it, I'll definitely want the manual.
