Ottawa corn sheller

Saw a first (for me) today in an Ottawa model DS-500 corn sheller. Didn"t have my camera along so no picture. It was powered by a 4 cylinder Continental engine. Made by Berg (?) and Hamilton Company of Ottawa, IL

Was rigged to pull behind a 2 row mounted picker to "create" an early picker/sheller.

Anyone familiar with this sheller?

Never seen one with a Continental. Have seen a handful that had v4 wisconson's.

I would add don't assume it was pulled behind a mounted picker!! We pulled ours behind a New Idea 300 pull type. Made for a real field train.

One of my earliest farming memories was riding in the gravity wagon with big brother and grandpa while dad was driving the 3020. Still have all the equipment but the wagon.

Have seen advertisments but never any units as they were not sold in my area. When field shelling became popular then it was all combines.

I looked at this yesterday with Ron. I had never seen anything like it either. The shelled corn was/is deposited into a tank, then unloaded with a dump auger, like a combine would have.

I hauled one home from King and Hamilton of Ottawa, IL around 1956 to be used behind a mounted picker. Dad wanted to try field shelling that year. The sheller was a constant source of trouble and was abandoned after 1 season. The next year, AC came out with a corn head for the Gleaner A which stayed together but didn't feed the best.
