Does anyone know can the brass guide ball be gotten separate of the arm? Messicks has the the whole arm with the ball available. It would be easier to just replace the ball.
How does one replace the arm? I have tried removing it but I must not have things in the right place. Or it looks easier then it is.Thanks, Jim

Yes they are available seperate. I did mine last year on my 68. The ends of the knife arms are bradded over so the ball can't come off. I ground mine off and removed the old ball and then got a hardened washer smaller than the diameter of the ball and welded it on the end of the knife arm. Later models the knife arm was threaded to make replacement simple. You should be able to find them under a 268 or 273 or so. If you can't find them I have the original pack at the house with the number on it I can post later. As far as removal after you remove the cotter pin I just swung my knotter all the way to the top and slowly wiggled my knife arm out. It does have to be just right though to get it out. Others may be more helpful or have better tips but that worked for me.

Somebody must have already swapped the knife arms out for later ones at some point in its life. The bag of rollers I have is part number 8000146 and they come 5 to a bag.
