Identify International sickle mower

I bought this mower but don't have any idea what model it is or how to operate/maintain it properly. I didn't see any tags or other identifying info on it. Does anyone know anything about the care and feeding of this? I tried searching for operators manuals and the like but didn't have much success because I couldn't narrow down the model, year, etc. Any help is appreciated.

I would agree that it is an IH 1300 which are real good balanced head mowers, you should be able to get a manual on e-bay for a reasonable price, plenty of them still out there being used.

Yes, IH 1300 balanced head mower making it a newer version of the 130 which is how the brochures ID'd the 3 pt mowers once they separated out the other hitch styles and stopped calling them all "100" mowers. Or at least that is how I read the sales lit. I wasn't there.

Care and feeding is pretty basic. Keep sharp sections on the knife and do all the usual sickle adjustments you will find in the manual. Grease on schedule with particular care on two points. Do not over grease the balanced head (see manual) and do not under grease the fitting where the knife attaches to the mower. That last fitting gets hit every time you start mowing and also doing the day periodically. Check the grease chart for exact spec but could be as often as every two hours. Don't neglect it...it can get smoking hot.

It should run with no "clacking" sound. Turn the pulley at the head back and forth a few inches and see how much slack it there. Should not be any. $500 to rebuild that head.
What did it cost you?

I paid $350 for it 4 years ago. I hooked it up and ran it briefly back then just to verify it worked. I don't remember if it made a clacking sound or not. I didn't know what sounds to expect.

There is little or no slack in the pulley. The cutterbar moves directly with the pulley, if that's what you mean.

I have need of it again but I wanted to locate a manual or maintenance instructions before working it very much.

What he means, I think, is that it will have a smooth sound to it. Like many scissors being open and shut but a bit louder. It is going to make some noise but there should not be anything like the sound of metal hitting metal.

You are reasonably OK to use it while waiting on the manual. Just be sure to do the lubrication as mentioned before. If it cuts well you can give it a light workout to see how things go. This will help you a lot when the manual arrives. Don't go crazy though, the heads are expensive to rebuild. I have three of them. Useful and well designed.

Mowers like that are selling for 1000 to 1500 here. Depends if it needs new guards $140 and new knife (130 bucks).
You don't want more thsn 7/32 gap on the guards.
