NH 892 blower band

Was chopping today and all of a sudden the blower band let go. I was working on it a little bit, but it looks like the spout and top transition peice need to come off to get the band spun around and off. Am I right or is there another way?

I put the head on the machine I picked up last year for parts and finished some of what I we had until I sheared the bolts to the cutter head and all we got laying around are butter bolts. The only issue with the parts machine that I can find, other than the sprockets need to be replaced, is that the reversing gearbox wants to reverse as soon as the control box is turned on, whether I'm touching the switch or not. I tried it with both boxes that came with the unit, and neither one makes a difference. Any ideas?

Probably doesn't matter, because I think by the end of the week I'm going to take the band off this one and use it to fix the other one. I looked up a new band on Messik's website and it comes out to $316 & some change. I picked up the second chopper for $200 last year, and it's got a new auger in it...

If you have a donor band, you can use a piece of that to fix your worn one. BTDT. At least save this one for use as a future donor. Straight crosscuts and careful welding is needed.

This one broke out right at the bolt holes that held it in. I fixed one for our Fox a while back and it worked ok. This one isn't worn through, just stressed and cracked.

Another place to check is Fry's machinery in Pa. NH

was only $600 for a new one from Fry. Their # is

Local dealer had the band and wear band in stock, so instead of tearing down 2 machines to make a good one dad just went and got one. I really want to spend some time on this second unit to figure out the electrical issues with it so we have 2 functioning choppers. We have been known to mix some hay and corn in the same wagon and it works a whole lot easier with 2 choppers. Used to switch heads on the Fox and then back again. Was a major pita.

There is a Leon Shirk in Abbotsford WI that has lots of equipment for parts and he has lots of Deere and NH choppers parted out.Phone is 715-223-2239.

Well I finished putting a new band and wear band in the 892 tonight. I actually got the band in last night but then I had to weld a few spots on the unit and part of the flange back onto the spout.

All I gotta do now is cut a new chain for the auger in back and at some point replace the sprockets since they're pretty worn. Then put the head back on and we're in business.
