Timing a John Deere 327 Baler

I broke a shear bolt and the baler is out of time. I have replaced the shear bolt. How do I remove the timing chain to reset the feeder pins?

Shearing either shear bolt will not get a JD 327 baler out of time. Loose frt chain can get baler out of time. Shearing a bolt(not designed shear bolt) on needle lift mechanism can get knotter shaft 180 degrees out of time if replaced incorrectly. Bolt(parts key 24) is shear bolt but bolt(parts key 23) is not a designed shear bolt and if 23 shears or falls out arm(parts key 1) can be installed 180 out of correct location. BTDT by not paying attention to correct twister/bill hook location when bolt 23 was replaced.

Is trip dog(parts key 4) & arm(parts key 1) on your baler in same correlation as parts photo?

Simply shearing the shear bolt wont effect timing one little bit.But if you have a broken/jumped chain, then THAT will effect timing. There are certain mesurements, tooth counts, etc you need to set RIGHT.You need a book for that.Order a book TODAY!The cheapest 40 bucks you will ever spend, and will save you hundreds of dollars worth of needless/preventable repairs.

The nice folks at 1-800-522-7448 have real JohnDeere service manuals on CD and hard copy. An IT manual is a waste of time and money.
The procedure covers several pages of text and images. A few sentences on an Internet site is rather scant by comparison.
If you run across the individual who lost the factory manual. Take and moment and cuss them out for stopping your hay baling.
As previously stated.A service manual is cheaper than a smashed baler.

I know you need that baler back in service ASAP.But to try and explain over this forum is a recipe for disaster. As in majorly broken baler. One tooth out......Boom!And then you spend several hundred dollars.....Do it "By the book"!

The only thing that will put that baler out of time is a broken front drive chain or some busted bevel gears. Breaking a shear bolt is a non issue. Replace the broken bolt and soldier on. What some do not realise is that there is also a knotter drive shear bolt that is sort of hidden in the knotter crank.... and if that is sheared it will continue to shear the flywheel shear bolt because the needle frame will not return home and depress the plunger stop. If the needles are not homing... find out why.
