Hp Difference between chain and belt round bailers

All the chain balers I have ever seen call for at least 55hp but many belt balers need less then 55hp so one would think a chain baler takes more HP to run
 
I don't think it's much a matter of whether it's a chain, belt or steel roller... what drives the power requirement is how fast the baler turns and what it's throughput capacity is. A fast baler will want more power.
