Do stub guards work better on a new Holland 451 mower opposed to regular guards and sections
I have been thinking about installing them on my 451 but I don't if it would worth the expense.

We put them on a 451 twenty eight years ago. It really helped prevent plugging. Not as good as a disc mower, but better than any other sickle bar I ever used. Really easy to change a bad section with bolt on sections. A couple of problems, though. You will have more broken sections because the sickle has less protection. My Dad thought it "jerked" and was hard on the bearings. Since it was his mower, we went back to the original smooth guards with a serrated sickle. Still an outstanding mower. I still like to use it on my old 656 Hydro. Pretty hard to mow 7 or 8 acres an hour, so hasn't been used for a while.
