What would others suggest?

I have a disk that I have to store outside. I just bought it last fall. I put grease on the disks and thought that would stay on for a long time. Well it didn't last past spring. Years ago when he was alive my Dad mixed some type of grease and used oil together and it seemed to last all year. Any one have suggestions on what to cover the disks with to keep them from rusting?

They will shine within an acre of use. I don't have much setting out, but if the disk has to see some rain for a bit I don't worry about it. The only thing we worried about growing up was the plow. We had a bucket that had straight crude in it and a paintbrush on a yardstick handle. We slopped those plow shares so that it would throw good next time.

Like the others said, it will polish up quick. But if you feel the need you could put used motor oil, till coat/plow coat or fluid film on them. Your nearest Farm and fleet, Big R, Rural King, CIH, JD, AGCO or NH dealers should have it as well. Comes in both aerosol and brush on.

Disc blades are not nearly as critical as plow moldboards . Discs will shine up pretty quick and don't make much difference in the job it will do . A plow won't do a decent job till the moldboards scour.

Never really worried about disk blades.

Protect the paint and the bearings and joints if you can, the blades are just not an issue.

Used motor oil has some coating properties that new oil just doesn't have, so used is better.

They make a plow grease that would work well, sticks.

Dad would coat with the used grease he collected from greasing everything in the old days, then polish the bottoms with a gunny sack and wood ashes before using. This was on plows.

Try some cheap paint--I get mine at the dollar store. Comes right off quick. I use it one my plow. We have a sandy loam and it scours quickly.
