Allis Chalmers #3 sickle bar mower

Hi Folks

I just got one of these from a field and wondered if I could find enough info to get it running. looks like it's set up to pull from a draw bar. Is there any documentation around for these? Dims for the pitman arm are also required. The Owner also gave me a grinder head with a stone to fit the sickle bar blades.

I have one in good working order, I could measure the pitman if needed for you, I should have that written down as well for myself if needed. I mounted mine on my H with the WC mount and it works great ! I also have the operators handbook and repair parts list if you think there is something in it you would need ...

That would be great, this unit was int he dirt for a while and the Pittman was eaten off, the ends are still there but the middle is gone. I don't know what isn't there but from the one set of pictures I saw there is a cover guard missing for the drive line and the hydraulic cylinder is missing (which I don't have an easy way to drive from my tractors anyway). I'm hoping I can use the unit without that.

But i'm having hard time seeing how this is supposed to mount. it looks like a U frame to mount to the lift arms but no top link attaching point and inside that U frame is another U frame that could make it bolt to drawbar, I suppose if it was bolted in 2 places to the draw bar it would lift and drag on it's single rear wheel bt without a top link whats stopping it from swinging up if it hit s something ?

Edit: I was told this was previously used on a 3pt tractor before

Actually I found some other pictures on the AC forum and mine never had the cylinder it had a lever to adjust and it should work fine just on the draw bar from what I can see of how it attaches. no need to lift it at all I guess

What tractor are you gonna mount it too ?

I have a B275 , and ford 2N and 9N's that should work with this.. thanks for that picture it shows exactly how mine has to mount.

I have a 4 page sales paper that came with that mower when it was new. Throw me an e-mail and I can scan it for you and then send you the info. It tell you how to use it and all. Says they came in 3 sizes 5,6, and 7 foot

I see your has the cylinder and the frame with the handle. Mine doesn't have the cylinder now I'm wondering if its supposed to have it after all . What does the cylinder do?

Thanks Old. My mail is [email protected]

The cylinder lifts the cutter bar, and so does the long lift arm, mine just happens to have both still installed. I only use the hydralic so far, but I figure it wont hurt to let the manual lift ride along...in fact if I have some form of hydralic failure I should still be able to lift it manually. Takes some grunt though !

Hah! well grunt I have... extra hydraulic ports I don't.

I'll need the length of the Pittman arm if you could find the time to measure it. i'll get to try and put this is operation this weekend, thanks

I keep my e-mail open on here all the time. If your in Classic you just need to click on send e-mail

Sorry there is some problem with my profile. it's opened as far as I know but it still doesn't show up. actually it looks like it's showing up now

(quoted from post at 12:06:08 07/30/13) I put a tape on it and I get 26 inches overall length. Hopefully your ends are good enough to copy/transfer the holes.

That's great. the ends are still in their brackets just the middle is gone. thanks there's a piece of oak waiting for me

Glen I think our local family center still has some pitman sticks to fit that in stock, I don't know where you are located, these are in Winterset Iowa, I just put a new 1 on mine last week.

I'm in Ontario, i'll have a look at the tractor supply place. I don't know how specific these are, I don;t see much Allis stuff around here so I think it was imported from some place that had a local dealer for them so i'm not holding much hope of stock somewere

You want to be able to lift it as, when you come to a corner and make a square turn, that will cause the bar to go back wards sometimes. IF it drops into a small ditch or something and cant go backwards, bad things can happen.

I can see where that could be a problem but the land here is very flat , the worse thing I could encounter is some ant hills and they are very soft.

Wondered if you still have it and if you may want to sell it?
