535 baler pto

I bought a 535 at an action and it came with a 1000 pto. The baler has 540 only sticker on it. How can I tell if that is the only speed or can I change it to 1000. I don't want to have to buy a $600-700 shaft. My book does not say. Thanks

Turn the input shaft of the gearcase one revolution. For 540 the output should turn more than one revolution. For 1000 input the output should turn less than one revolution.

Speeds are changed by inverting the gearcase, changing the shaft(or shortening it) to the drive sprockets and installing the correct input pto shaft.

if the side of the gear box facing the drive shaft is flat it is set up for 1000 rpm,
the 540 side has a extension on the box.
As been said flip the box if you want to chance input RPM's
