Kuhn 300 rotary rake

Thinking about updating my old 640 JD to an older, but low acreage Kuhn 300 rotary rake. its a 3PH model and some 5 hours away. My question is how do they work, do you have to lift them at each corner or are they on casters of some kind and trail behind. I hope to use it behind a 2600 Ford. This little tractor is light on the front end at the best of times (to the point I have loaded the front tires) How am I going to make out picking up this rake. No flat ground here lots of side hills. Thanks for all advice.

You should be fine with it on your 2600! As for corners, the wheels are fixed, but the headgear swivels. You should be fine leaving it down on corners. once you get used to it, you will wonder how you ever made hay without it! One thing, If you don't have sway bars on the 2600, you should plan on adding them! I use mine with a 3910

You can see the corner I raked just to the left of the tractor

Thanks for the reply and the picture. Good looking pair of Fords there. Had pretty good luck with your 300? Those are big tines, sure hope broken ones are few and far between.

With rotary rakes, the tines should NOT touch the ground,i have a 4229, which is a newer version of the 300, although it rakes to the right not left. There should be depth stops to stop the rake lowering too much, they will need to be reset if you use a different tractor to rake...

Height of tines should be set/controlled with rake wheels. That should not change from one tractor to another. Leveling of rake, front to back, will be accomplished by adjusting top link. 3 point hitch control should be in full lowered position when raking. This per operator's manual!

I do not want to hijack this thread, however, I just
sheared the pin that holds the cam in the rotor in
place, and broke a couple of arms as the cam dropped
due to this... Anyways, does anyone here have a
picture of which direction the cam is supposed to be
in? I have fixed this before, and had to take
everything back apart as I had it 180 degrees off on
initial installation. I would like to prevent this
again... Thanks, Leo

I have a trailed model Kuhn, but one nice thing about all the rotary rakes is they always rake full width, even in the corners!
