8300 jd drill and dry fertilezer

Just wondering if it is possible to add dry fertilizer attatchment to a 8300 jd drill.first year for the drill and thought that I would like being able to sew more acres between fill with the straight grain box but I hate spreading fertilizer before planting and not sure if it is the growing year or not but my grain crop does not look as good as past years.always used my fathers jd drill which had the fertilizer box but as my own land base keeps growing it was time to get my own drill. The drill itself is like new so that id why I am curious to see if you can get a kit convert the old drill or if I should just look for a different drill thanks
 
For many years around here, we have just been spinning on fertilizer, and not putting any in the drill. Most today are not sold with a fertilizer box- just extra space for a larger seed box. Many older drills have never even had fertilizer in them.
 

To my knowledge no fert attachment was ever built for a JD 8300 grain drill. The model for fertilizer in that size box was a 8350. Bag fertilizer costs more per ton plus a fertilizer drill is very difficult to correctly clean so it doesn't rust.
 
Listen to TX Jim. Save yourself a lot of greif and spread the fertilizer on seperately. Fertilizer through the drill is an absolute PITA!
 
You did not say where your located but many crops don't look as good this year because of all of the water/rain.

Forget the fertilizer in the drill. You can spread 50 acres in less than an hour with a spinner spreader. Plus the fertilizer is $40-50 a ton less than bagged costs. You can put a little extra on if you think the crops need more.

Also most small grains do not need much fertilizer when they are smaller so you rarely see any yield increase with applying the fertilizer in the row.

IF you hate spreading the fertilizer have your local COOP do it. It would still be cheaper than bags.
