Tying

Twine is knotting up bad on 1 billhook and when I miss a bale and walkback to look there is 3 strings laying across the top of the bale all untied. Anybody help with this one?

Have the manual with you when you check out the needles, knotters, twine tension at each phase of the tying process. Usually something is out of alignment, a pin has sheared (or partially sheared, which is harder to find), or a bent or worn part is throwing the timing out of whack.

Each piece has to be checked and compared against the knotter that is tying as you cycle the needles and knotters through the tying cycle. Eventually you should see the problem.

What model baler are you using. With any baler if the knot doesn't pull of the bill hooks then all future knots will pile up until the bill hook is cleaned up.

How long since you sharpened the twine knives? That's the first thing I'd do and if it's still not wiping the knots off the billhook, then look at the clearance of the wiper to the hook..., check the twine tension and check the billhook finger tension.
If it worked fine before and this is a new problem and you're using the same twine... I'd assume the twine knives are dull. Remove and file with a flat file.

If it is happening all the time I agree with the previous posts. If it happens only when you run a large clump through, then check if there is any side to side slop on the knotter timing gear. I recently discovered that a couple of shims solved a similar problem. Just too much slop in the timing gear and a lot of wear on the cam of the billhoog gear.

just went thrugh this the past weekend, mine is a nh 278 baler, it would not wipe the twine off the bill hook, talked to a guy and gave me a few things to try. the arm that has the knife on also wipes the twine off the bill hook, i bent it up some so it rubs more on the bottom of the bill hook, do a little at a time so not to rubs to hard and wear it out.

Get a Case 220 Baler = Nothing will ever tye /cut ours up for Scrap 20 years ago. !! try Sanding the Bill Hook, the Rust off it & Spraying it with WD 40

Make sure it's shiny clean, had that problem with MF 9 because it sit outside a bit. It didn't really look rusty but polishing it with a wire wheel did the trick.
