New Holland 850 baler--Tying bales

I'm curious if anyone that has run a NH 850 has a secret to getting the twine started on a bale. I have loosened the 1st and 2nd tension plates to near nothing on the baler and I still find myself getting off the tractor and pulling more twine through just to get it started. It seems as tho the knife is cutting the twine to short when finished. Is there a trick to tying these bales or am I missing something simple.

Keep picking up hay until the twine starts. Make sure the tube isn't worn to bad and binding the twine up.

Is it just an issue in the center of a new ball of twine? If so,it's normal. And darned frustrating.

Just solved that problem on my 644. Open your rear door and latch it up with the safety. Start your PTO and trip the knotter latch. Let the needles trip in and shut off the PTO. The twine bullets should be easily accessible at this point. Take the right tube and put it on the left, and the left tube on the right. If you pull some twine though and leave it in the tube while you're working, it will be easy to rethread the twine correctly. What has happened is the outer end of the tube always has the twine pulling through the inside of the tube, and the twine has actually cut a gash in the side of the tube. When the needles re=enter the chamber, the bullets aren't holding the twine tight enough and allowing it to pull back into the tube....

My 850 would do that about every ten bales no matter what you did I'd pull em out rethread em and leave about a foot hanging out below the knife and it would still do it had almost zero tension on the twine
