White 5100 planter air guage

I posted on here last spring that the air guage on my 5100 planter quit working and Agco wanted about $200 for a new one. Someone suggested Amazon, so I looked on there and found a 0 to 10psi guage for about $35. I ordered it, and when it came, I put it on and it didn't work, so I borrowed one from my brothers planter so I could get my crops in. I finally was home during the day, so I called the company that sent it and explained the guage didn't work. They sent me another one free, and checked it before sending it out. I put it on today, and it doesn't work. Am I missing something?? The planter air is supplied by a fan, not a compressor, it shouldn't make any difference as long as the pipe has air pressure in, should it? I had the tractor running about 1/2 throttle and turned up the fan speed to give it more air and still nothing. What gives? It was running 1 3/4#s air when I planted, put in the new guage and nothing. Has anyone replaced the air guage with a non Agco guage and had any luck? I'm confused!! Chris

It's been 5 years since my 5100 left, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Didn't the original measure inches/water column? Where something like 26 in. roughly equals .5 PSI?

Dwyer Instruments came to mind, and I just was looking at their site. They have a whole bunch of them.

Doesn't your original gauge show in./water column? Have you messed with it to be sure it isn't just plugged, or stuck?

I don't remember for sure but I thought those were vacuum not pressure gauges. I may be all wrong though.

Not a white, but on the JD 1760 it is a vacuum guage and right on the guage it says 'inches of water'. I've been staring at that thing steadily for the last two weeks! I assume yours is a vacuum planter.

Chris that gauge should be reading inches of water not PSI. Easy mistake to make. A fan will not easily produce more than 1 PSI in most applications.

Blow into the White gauge with your mouth. I think you will find it will move fairly easy with just you blowing into it. Then try the new gauge. You will be hard pressed to blow 2-3 PSI.

I just bought one from Dwyer instruments for my 5100 White, used it this spring, worked beautifully, and screwed on also! Measures inches of water, as did the original that broke. Here is what I bought, well worth the price, free shipping also!

Meausures 0-5 inches of water, just plug the other holes on it and blow into the hole that makes the gauge work.

Also should say that the planter planted a beautiful stand and kept the discs full, so the gauge worked well! All I ordered was that gauge for 54 dollars, nothing else needed. Also, they are the cheapest I found for that gauge.

I was thinking the gauge was more like 0-15. Seems like I might have run 6-8 inches/w.c. often, so, a 0-5 gauge would be pegged.

What's the range on the original?
