Fair Price on Danuser F8

I am thinking about selling my Danuser F8 post-hole digger. It is an early 1970s model that I bought used from an older man. It has superficial rust, faded paint, a cheater bar welded on top of it to slide a pipe into to force it down on the hard pan clay, welding where the previous owner broke the boom pin holder above the gear box.

Otherise, the drive shaft and pinion have been replaced with the 7577 conversion kit that Danuser sells. The gears in the box are good with no major wear, and I just dug about 400 holes with it over the last few weeks building a 1 1/2 miles of fence. A good set of teeth and point will make that chew up tough ground in 98% of the cases around here.

I am keeping the augers to use on the new one.

I am thinking about selling it to get a new F8 with the down force kit attached and for tax purposes.

What is a fair price for such an auger as described? $1,000?

Around my part of the country sounds like a $350-$400 item without auger. You can buy good ones complete with auger and no welds or repairs for $750-$800 on the right day.

tractor300 is very close, even high. Who wants to buy a used PHD and turn around and drop $4-600 on a new auger? Gonna be a tough sell @ $250 the way you are presenting it. Most buyers won't appreciate the difference between an F8 and a TSC special they can take home & use because it is complete.

Price in Mid Atlantic states at the auctions have really dropped on Post Hole Diggers. Danusers are 350 to 450. Only a small time person uses them The fence builders all use fancy post drivers.

Very different around here. All of the professional fence builders, barbed wire and field fencing specifically, use the Danuser. Those who build chain link and other types use the driver or other front mounted augers.

That said, the re-sale value of the Danuser is not as great as originally thought. I posted here and on the 9n,2n,8n, forum and the price of $300-$500 keeps coming back from different parts of the country.
