sicle bar anvil?

I bought a sickle bar anvil today at an auction that has john deere cast into it. I remember my dad using one when I was young to rivot new sections to the bar, but can someone tell me the different uses? thanks, Mark.

Knife sections, guard ledger plates, outer shoe ledger plate, etc., that DEERE chunk of cast iron could do 'em all.

You need to take a look at a mower manual from that era (even pretty close to the present time) which will show you illustrations of all the ways it can be used.
