Swather Board for 501 sickle mower

Thanks everyone for your help.
I have a few more questions. I have been looking at the operators manual. Still don't understand how to adjust the distance of the of the knife blade to the ledger. It says to this by shims. So I buy different thickness of metal shims? Also I don't understand how to adjust the stroke so the knife blades pass through the middle of each blade guard. Thanks for you help. If it is possible to rescan that manual so we can see the details that would be great. Thanks again.

Its called registering your mower. Get a manual or
down load one.

I looked for timing in my MF 32 manual, then someone
said look under register.

There it was, how to adjust the bar so the blade
stops at the correct point during the cycle.

I have a manual for the 515 ford sickle mower. I can scan any page you want and send it to you if you first send me an e-mail so I can do that

John,

I have a Ford 501 sickle bar mower. The only way to adjust the ledger plate to sickle section clearance that I've ever heard of or done is by bending the hold down clips to hold the knife down near the ledger plate. I've never seen any shims to do this. I guess there could be some for under the ledger plate, but I don't think so.

Registration is done by adding or removing shims between the yoke bracket and the main frame. I don't have any way to scan a document at this time, but if you can get your hands on an Operator's Manual, the procedure is shown with a diagram to explain where to add or remove the shims.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

Actually there were shims for that that I suppose were bought at dealer but when things wear they were taken out and thru away to tighten the hold downs. There are adjustable hold downs on the market to take care of that problem. And that is what a Amish friend uses on all mowers he rebuilds that go thru his shop for sale and these are mowers that are 50 years older than yours.
