Splitting Wood Just Got a Lot Easier

I finally got a wood splitter today. I've been looking for a while. Settled on a Speeco 25 ton with a Honda 190 cc engine. So far, so good. Put gas in and it started on the second pull. Split about half my pile of cut wood. I plan to use my tractor to pull it to the woods and split it there. Then I can load the split wood on my carry all to haul it to the house. Might even be able to sell a little to help pay for the splitter.

You will find they are worth every penny you give for them. I bought a 35 ton from TSC about 5 years ago and have had no trouble with it. I still split a lot of straight grain wood by hand but if it gives me any trouble splitting I go get the log splitter.

You'll like the Speeco, that motor sips fuel, though it runs at one rpm, no throttle. I would suggest the log cradle, and the 4 way wedge, the latter is great for straight grained wood, at certain diameters, though I don't use it all the time, its nice for wood symmetrical and proportional to its size, softer woods mostly, but I have used it in black cherry.

I bought a lockhart log gripper from baileys to heft the blocks up onto the cradle, handy tool.

Here's a 35 ton with a nicely done hydraulic log lift. I want to see how they attached it and hinged it off the beam, nicely done, really improves upon the splitter and gives you a nice side table on it, that big crotch wood block was no trouble for it.

They come with 4 holes drilled an tapped, would seem that would be enough with grade 8 bolts, looks like they may have just fabricated something to match, it looks neat and professional, would be a nice add on for speeco, suprised given how simple this looks, its not been considered.

Used it again today. One thing I wish it had was a taller blade. I split some big popple into 1-2" slabs to split further for kindling. But it sure beats a mall. I have a lot of downed trees from a year or two ago so I'll have lots of work for it.

I'd like to have a good splitter.
On the other hand, I think I'll stick to natural gas.

Honda small engines. Gas on, choke, switch on, pull rope two, maybe 3 times. Good to go.

I had a shop make me a 6" extension for my wedge, I just welded it to the top of the factory wedge.

Has worked well for many years now, I bought my splitter back in 1982. Brave brand, I have changed the hydraulic oil once, I did add a hydraulic oil filter.
