About that sprayer we worked on last fall...

The corn is about 6" tall now. Pretty good crop of small weeds sprouting in the rows. I have seen large jugs of Roundup at TSC in the sprayer aisle. Good place to get it? I rejuvenated an old sprayer last fall with help here and calibrated it to the tractor that is going to pull it. Just need to know what and when. Don't want to kill off me crop after all this work!

I buy 'generic' Roundup. 'Glyphosate'.Cheaper.Buy it at farm chemical places/Coop,etc..Thpose places have 'professionals' who can advise.I would buy TSC stuff only as a last resort. They cater to the 'weekender'...not the farmer.I use the recomended 1 quart per acre. But whatever you buy, READ the lable FIRST! My 'program': Super H,3rd gear full throttle = 5 mph.8002 nozzles at 20" spaceing at 30 psi. That comes out to 10.3 gallon solution per acre. With a 110 gallon tank, you can do 10 acres per tank. Most guys use BIGGER and NEWER,But for my 'penny' operation (70 acres corn'small fields),perfect.

I"m assuming you have RR corn. It"s better to mix chemistry and use something with some residual, but I have sprayed round up around 6-10" tall and had clean corn. I wouldn"t make a habit of it, but for your first year it should work. If you can find a coop or someone more geared to farming, they can probably sell you generic glyphosate for $15 a gallon or so. At a quart per acre, and not a lot to spray, I suppose you could buy glyphosate anywhere convenient. Good luck,

Acctually you can spray 'roundup' on RR corn anytime. When the corn starts covering the row,you must use drops. However there a stage during tasselling/silking/pollinating that is harmful to spray. But by that time, the corn is too tall.....

That works.

A farm coop or feed store type of outlet may be cheaper. Or Hefty Ag PhD I type of place.

Best to use AMS with any type of Roundup. Its spray able nitrogen, it helps condition your water and helps weeds grow to make the Roundup work better. Use 17 lbs per 100 gallons, comes in 51 lb bags.

You didnt say, your corn I'd Roundup Ready of course?

Your correct. I guess I wasn"t clear, but when I said not to make a habit of it I was referring to using round up as the only chemical in your program. Some areas of the country round up has become much less useful because of so much resistance.
