NH 256 telescoping shaft

There are 3 parts that slide into each other, the square tube that is in the middle. It has the edges worn off it really bad. Any idea what caused it. Also would it be possible to weld them up and grind them smooth.

That whole shaft is available aftermarket from Messick's dot com.
Part number 677847GV. $132.70. New Holland OEM is $178.67

They just wear cause they run sort of sloppy in a dusty environment. seem like I made parts for one out of square tube and an old pto shaft. Doesn't take much to run it, just so it doesn't slop around too much.

Any TISCO dealer can supply that aftermarket shaft as well.
